How to use this tool
Enter centimetres for height and kilograms for weight. Use consistent measurement conditions and check the units before comparing results. Adult category labels must not be applied to a child’s growth assessment.
Results and examples
BMI is a screening index rather than a direct measure of body fat. Do not mix this screen’s 23/25 boundaries with the CDC adult 25/30 boundaries or infer a diagnosis from a category alone.
Worked example
At 170 cm and 65 kg, BMI is 65 divided by 1.7 squared, or approximately 22.5.
Limitations
- Muscularity, pregnancy, fluid changes and individual health are not assessed.
- The screen’s Asia-related classification wording still requires guideline review.
