Normalize Audio Loudness — Free, Local
Apply a single-pass loudnorm filter to adjust listening level, targeting -16 LUFS integrated loudness, -1.5 dBTP true peak and an 11 LU loudness range. The processed signal is encoded to MP3.

How to use this tool
Choose an audio file and the MP3 bitrate. Normalization can make existing background noise more noticeable, so distinguish this level adjustment from a noise-removal process before selecting the recording.
Results and examples
Compare the output with the source in a consistent listening setup and inspect abrupt level changes or distortion. Filter targets are not a measured compliance certificate for a broadcaster or distribution service.
Worked example
Process a quiet interview at 192 kbps to make an MP3 with the configured loudnorm filter, then compare loud passages too. Run separate recordings and listen at the same player volume near the start, middle and loudest moments.
Limitations
- I=-16, TP=-1.5 and LRA=11 are filter targets, not a guarantee that every output measures exactly those values.
- This is not denoising or source separation; quiet background noise can become more audible.

Is background noise removed automatically?
No. Loudness processing is separate from denoising.
Will a WAV stay WAV?
