PDF to TEXT Converter — Free, No Upload
Extract an existing PDF text layer into a TXT file with page separators. It is useful for collecting selectable passages, but does not recognize text inside pictures or preserve document formatting.
- Runs in your browser
- Nothing is uploaded
- No signup; device limits apply
How to use this tool
Choose a PDF whose text can be selected in a viewer. Plan to check reading order for columns and tables; a document made entirely of scanned images requires a separate OCR step.
Results and examples
Use the page markers to compare the text file with the source. Stored text order can differ from visual reading order, while fonts, table borders, pictures and clickable links are not represented in plain text.
Worked example
Extract a four-page selectable-text guide into TXT with markers such as --- page 1 ---. Search an extracted contract for amounts, checking the source when two-column text appears interleaved.
Limitations
- Scanned lettering requires the separate PDF OCR tool.
- Tables, columns and positioned text may not follow the visible reading order.
